Fibratech, as Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days (PAM 372) explains, is”produced from unidirectional mineral fibers produced by the combination of basalt stone. These fibers, secured with polymers, become thin layers which are superimposed in an exact orientation and then consolidated via a pressure- and – temperature-controlled process.” The way the resulting watch instance feels about the wrist remains to be judged in a Wrist Time inspection .
The brand appears excited to have this high tech discovery become more than a one time thing and turn into another generation of Panerai Fibratech watches. The Luminor Marina FibratechTM (PAM01663) is, apparently, the first of many more to come. This is interesting because, generally, high-tech substances used in the greater luxury watch industry stay components exclusively earmarked for”halo pieces,” instead of stuff intended for longterm, serious production, even if the latter is what actually serves as actual proof of the value of this innovation — and not the lofty claims made in press releases. Here is hoping for more SIHH 2015. Read more about this model bits with proprietary materials.
